Rohit Rao started playing drums at the age of 14. He’s constantly been working with different songwriters, helping them grow and expand their music. He started out playing in numerous local bands of the San Francisco Bay Area, with local legends in the music scene like Matt Bleyle (Violent Change), Tony Molina and members of Silver Jews.
Rohit is experienced in drumming from the technical and conceptual level to touring with bands nationally. He emphasizes drums in the form of blending a myriad of different genres, referenced by Pitchfork and NPR music writer as a drumming wunderkind, seamlessly blending punk and acid jazz.
He has mainly drummed for Bottled Up for the last 6 years in the DC area. He studied under Jake Nomichow and Andrew Toy, putting his experience forward to teach others about their potential and growth in music. He’s an expert at helping students write their own drum parts while building fundamentals, journeying into individual students drum composition style.
